Conquistadors

We conquered this land with straight lines,
roads and railroads,
sectioned and fenced into square furrowed fields,

but the land still rolls,
still floods,

and I wonder what kind of vengeance is circling our way
for driving out the Natives, the buffalo,
the millions murdered.
